I just had a thought. What if Purgatory effects people by tapping into their fears or something like that? And at the end of the finale when Cas disappeared on Dean, it was actually just a hallucination caused by Dean’s fear of abandonment?

THAT IS AMAZING OMG I WANT THIS SO BAAAD

OMG imagine if it also showed Dean Castiel’s worst fears, which would be amazing character development and show how much Dean means to Cas, because some of them would be Cas’ fear of losing Dean. And when Dean gets back he feels so guilty and doesn’t want to tell Sam - especially a Sam who hasn’t tried to rescue him - how much he means to Cas, because Dean’s self esteem can’t quite believe it.
